My experience with start-ups means I am in an excellent position to offer marketing services to fellow entrepreneurs in a manner which is in keeping with the realities of running a start-up. I understand the flexibility which is required at all times, the importance of meeting or bettering budgets, and the probability of shifting deadlines and evolving requirements resulting from unanticipated events. Sometimes an all-nighter can make the difference between success and failure. I get it; this is how I am used to working.
My skills and experience cover all the key areas of marketing required by start-up businesses: Media design & production; Advertising campaigns; PR campaigns; Telesales; Tradeshows; Market Research; Marketing Strategy.
The one thing that stands out for me in working in/with start-ups is that no two organisations will have remotely similar marketing requirements. With so many different goals/strategies/budgets, there is no template for success and the above is simply an overview of some of the major areas I deal with. In each individual company’s case it is necessary to start from scratch and come up with ideas and solutions that best fit the organisation.
Creativity and Responsiveness
My favourite projects are those that step outside what is “normal” and take advantage of the flexibility and speed that are two of the core strengths of smaller organisations. For example, sometimes the most important requirement is to complete a mountain of data entry and that’s fine. But sometimes the focus could be to design a promotional campaign so unusual and appealing that the mainstream media will pick it up and therefore multiply the audience in a budget-conscious way. And other times the key is to take advantage of the fast-paced working environment of a small organisation to stay one step ahead of the competition. Whatever is needed, you will have my time and expertise to take the job off your hands and allow you to focus on the one hundred and one other things that demand your attention!
Qualifications, Experience & Publications
My background is in marketing and entrepreneurship management, having studied both areas at degree and masters level respectively. I also have experience in putting this expertise into practice; in my own start-up ventures and in other organisations both as employee and consultant (a variety of sizes/types of organisation ranging from multinational to start-up and university to charity). In addition to providing marketing services to fellow entrepreneurs I am currently running Fit the Bill.ie, a price comparison web application in continued development. I have also published a book on the relationship between founder experience and new venture performance.
